I went to Rebar - modern food restaurant, for lunch and the restaurant was busy. There is no meat to be seen on the menu, but there is shrimp and fish. Vegetarian!
I have been here twice now and believe it or not sat at the same little table for two.
This time I went Nicole, Sales Manager for the National Geographic IMAX Theatre. See the "Inside Scoop" for details on what is playing at the IMAX. Nicole and I both ordered the Monks Curry Bowl with oyster mushrooms, Japanese eggplant, Asian greens, red potato, scallions and fresh herbs, it was wok fried in a home made green curry - coconut sauce served on jasmine rice with roasted peanuts and fresh lime. It was great and just the right amount for lunch.
You can buy the Rebar Cookbook at the restaurant or online. Check out the juice menu too!
On your way out you must buy a dessert for later baked by Cascadia Wholefoods Bakery.

Our server was Jena.
Jena turned out to be more than a server at one of Victoria's most popular downtown restaurants, Rebar. Growing up in a very musical family, Jena Gogo studied music and joined a professional Motown Rhythm and Blues band, The Midnights, at the age of 15.
She performed regularly at venues all over Vancouver and Vancouver Island with trips to Europe and the United States as well. On a band trip to Detroit, the home of Motown, Jena's R&B band had a chance to perform for the legendary Martha Reeves of Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. On this occasion Martha agreed to fly to Victoria to perform for the opening of the Victoria Jazz festival with The Midnights as her band.
A documentary was made on both the visit to Detroit and Martha's visits and performances in Victoria. The documentary was so successful it was asked to open the Victoria Film Festival of 2008.
At the opening gala of the festival, Jena was spotted by supermodel, writer, film maker and actress Irina Pantaeva who invited Jena to New York to meet with the Ford Model Agency. Jena has returned from her exciting trip with plans to return to New York in August before the commencement of New York Fashion week.
Although Jena will moving to Montreal where she will pursue music, you never do know who you'll meet in bustling downtown Victoria!
The next "Scoop" - Nautical Nellie's Restaurant with David Roberts, Sales & Operations Manager for the
Prince of Whales and my whale watching adventure aboard the Ocean Magic.
so... stay tuned to find out if I saw whales?
